ISO 9001, the world’s leading quality management standard, is under revision, with an updated version due to be finished the revision process by the end of 2015.
The standard is now at stage 4 of a 6 stage process, the Draft International Stage (DIS) has been released by ISO. This DIS is available to purchase from their site here.
During this DIS stage ISO gathers feedback from interested parties via the national member bodies (in Ireland that is the NSAI’s Quality Management Standards Committee, of which SureLeaf are delighted to be a recently appointed member).
Once all comments have been gathered and the draft approved it can move to the next stage of Final Draft International Standard (FDIS)and then finally publication.
As the changes to the standard are significant, organisations with a QMS currently certified to ISO 9001:2008 will be able to avail of a 3 year transition period, within which they must upgrade their QMS (where necessary) to address the new requirements.
